Hyper-V Element Configurations

Outside of Sync-related management, you may want to change the way Hyper-V Elements (i.e., Hyper-V servers and VMs) are displayed in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, as well as test that their data collection is functioning correctly.

Hyper-V Element Profiles

The System Profile section on a VMware vCenter server’s Info page allows you to modify its descriptive information in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, change how Uptime Infrastructure Monitor communicates with it, and how often it is polled for metric data.

vCenter Server Profile Settings

The following settings define a VMware vCenter server profile in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor:

Sync Display Name	A switch the enables and disables whether the Display Name is used to identify this server in Sync.
Display Name	The name used for the Hyper-V server Element throughout the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., Infrastructure).
Sync Host Name	A switch the enables and disables whether the Host Name is used to identify this server in Sync.
Host Name	The actual host name of the server.
Description	An optional description for the server that is used in different parts of the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., in tool tips in Global Scan and Infrastructure).
Use Uptime Agent Global Configuration	A switch that enables and disables ion to allow the Monitoring Station to detect systems that have the Agent installed on them. Select the Use Uptime Agent Global Configuration check box if this information is configured (see Configuring Global Data Collection Methods for more information); otherwise complete the following options:
Port	Accept or modify the default port through which Uptime Infrastructure Monitor connects to the server.
Use SSL	Select this checkbox if the Element securely communicates with the Monitoring Station using SSL (HTTPS).
Parent Group	Group within Uptime Infrastructure Monitor where this server resides.
Custom Fields	Available for users to customize with identification detail.
Enable Monitoring	A switch that enables and disables monitoring for the server in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor. When disabled, the Element no longer appears in Global Scan, and its respective VMs also cease data collection.
Basic Performance Data Polling Interval	The frequency that the Hyper-V server collects performance data for all of its components (clusters, resource pools).
Number of Processes to Retrieve	The total number of processes within the Hyper-V server that are collected each time polling occurs.

Viewing and Editing a Hyper-V Server Profile

To modify the display details for a Hyper-V server Element in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, or modify the rate at which it gathers metric data for its component resources, do the following:

In the Infrastructure panel, click the gear icon beside the Hyper-V server, then in the pop-menu, select View.
On the Hyper-V Element profile page, click Edit System Profile and Collection.
In the Edit System Profile pop-up window, make all required changes. For more information about the Hyper-V server, see 7.8 - Hyper-V Element Configurations.
Click Save.

ESX Server Element Profiles

The Info tab for an ESX server allows you to modify its descriptive information in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, test its data collection status, and view its VM inventory.

For each ESX server, Uptime Infrastructure Monitor also performs regular configuration checks to ensure all aspects of the hypervisor’s managed virtual assets, as well as its own hardware details are up to date. By default, this information is polled by the vSphere ESX Server Configuration Gatherer service monitor, and includes the following configuration details:

virtual and network datastore profiles and capacities
NICs and virtual networks
physical CPU, disk, and file system information
for managed VMs, vNICs and virtual disks

ESX Server Profile Details and Settings

The following details and settings can be viewed or configured for an ESX server profile in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor:

Sync Display Name	Determines whether the VM’s display name is locked to the VMware vSphere Client object name, and refreshed during vSync.
Display Name	The name used for the ESX server throughout the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., Infrastructure).
Sync Host Name	Determines whether the ESX host name in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor is locked to its DNS name, and refreshed during vSync.
Host Name	The actual host name of the server.
Description	An optional description for the server that is used in different parts of the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., in tool tips in Global Scan and Infrastructure).
Parent Group	The group the ESX server is assigned to, for organization in Infrastructure.
vSphere Parent Object	The VMware vSphere component (e.g., cluster) to which the ESX server belongs. If the user has access rights, this object links to that Element’s Quick Snapshot page.
vCenter Server	The VMware vCenter server that manages this ESX server. If the user has access rights, this links to that Element’s Quick Snapshot page.
Monitored Status	A switch that enables and disables monitoring for the server in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor. When disabled, the Element no longer appears in Global Scan, and its VMs cease data collection.
Basic Performance Data Polling Interval	The amount of time, in minutes, that Uptime Infrastructure Monitor waits between metric data retrieval operations.
Advanced Performance Data Polling Interval	The advanced data settings perform the same functions as those above, but are for advanced VMware vSphere metrics.

Viewing and Editing an ESX Server Profile

To modify the display details for an ESX server Element in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, or modify the rate at which it gathers metric data for its component resources, do the following:

In the Infrastructure panel, click the ESX server name.
On the ESX server profile page, click Edit System Profile.
In the Edit System Profile pop-up window, make all required changes. For more information about the ESX server, 7.8 - Hyper-V Element Configurations.
Click Save.

Testing and Modifying Data Collection for an ESX Server

To ensure Uptime Infrastructure Monitor can successfully draw metric data collected by the VMware vSphere platform for an ESX server, do the following:

In the Infrastructure panel, click the ESX server name.
On the ESX server profile page, in the Data Collection section, click Test for Basic Platform Performance Status.
For the Advanced Platform Performance Status, click Test.
To make any changes, click View Settings, and then click Edit Info. For more information about making changes to data polling for an Element, see Editing the Platform Performance Gatherer.
