Hyper-V Element Configurations
Outside of Sync-related management, you may want to change the way Hyper-V Elements (i.e., Hyper-V host servers and guest VMs) are displayed in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, as well as test that their data collection is functioning correctly.
Hyper-V Host Server Profiles
The System Profile section on a Hyper-V host server’s Info page allows you to modify its descriptive information in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, change how Uptime Infrastructure Monitor communicates with it, and how often it is polled for metric data.
Hyper-V Server Profile Settings
The following settings define a Hyper-V server profile in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor:
Display Name | The name used for the Hyper-V server throughout the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., Infrastructure). | |
Host Name | The actual host name of the server. | |
Description | An optional description for the server that is used in different parts of the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., in tool tips in Global Scan and Infrastructure). | |
| Parent Group | The group the server is assigned to, for organization in Infrastructure. | |
| Domain | The domain where the server resides. | |
| Username | The user name for the administrator user account on the server. | |
| Password | The password for the administrator user account on the server. | |
| Use Hyper-V Global Credentials | A switch that enables and disables monitoring for the server in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor. When disabled, the Element no longer appears in Global Scan, and its respective VMs also cease data collection. | |
| Enable Monitoring | A switch that enables and disables monitoring for the server in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor. When disabled, the Element no longer appears in Global Scan, and its respective VMs also cease data collection. | |
Basic Performance Data Polling Interval | The frequency that the Hyper-V server collects performance data for all of its components (clusters, resource pools). | |
Viewing and Editing a Hyper-V Host Server Profile
To modify the display details for a Hyper-V host server in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, or modify the rate at which it gathers metric data for its component resources, do the following:
- In the Infrastructure panel, click the gear icon beside the Hyper-V server, and then in the pop-menu, select View.
- On the Hyper-V Server profile page, click Edit System Profile.
- In the Edit System Profile pop-up window, make all required changes. For more information about the Hyper-V server, see Hyper-V Server Profile Settings.
- Click Save.
Guest VM Profiles
The System Profile section on a Hyper-V guest virtual machine Element’s Info page allows you to modify its descriptive information in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, change how Uptime Infrastructure Monitor communicates with it, and how often it is polled for metric data.
Guest VM Profile Details and Settings
The following details and settings can be viewed or configured for Hyper-V guest VM profile in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor:
Sync Display Name | Determines whether the VM’s display name is locked to the Hyper-V host object name, and refreshed during Sync. | |
Display Name | The name used for the VM throughout the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., Infrastructure). | |
Sync Host Name | Determines whether the VM’s host name in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor is locked to its DNS name, and refreshed during Sync. | |
Host Name | The actual host name of the VM. | |
Description | An optional description for the VM that is used in different parts of the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor interface (e.g., in tool tips in Global Scan and Infrastructure). | |
| Use Uptime Agent Global Configuration | A switch that enables and disables using the Agent global configuration collection methods set up in Uptime. | |
| Port | Accept or modify the default port through which Uptime Infrastructure Monitor connects to the server. | |
| Use SSL | Select this checkbox if the Element securely communicates with the Monitoring Station using SSL (HTTPS). | |
Parent Group | The group the VM is assigned to, for organization in Infrastructure. | |
| Custom Fields | Available for users to customize with identification detail. | |
Enable Monitoring | A switch that enables and disables monitoring for the VM in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor. When disabled, the VM does not appear in Global Scan, and no data is collected for it. | |
Basic Performance Data Polling Interval | The amount of time, in minutes, that Uptime Infrastructure Monitor waits between metric data retrieval operations for the VM. This option appears only if the VM is receiving metric data via WMI or the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor Agent. | |
Number of Processes to Retrieve | The number of VM processes, based on the most usage, those metrics are collected for the VM. This option appears only if the VM is receiving metric data via WMI or the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor Agent. | |
Viewing and Editing a Guest VM Profile
To modify the display details for a Hyper-V guest VM Element in Uptime Infrastructure Monitor, do the following:
- In the Infrastructure panel, click the guest VM name.
- On the VM profile page, click Edit System Profile and Collection.
- In the Edit System Profile pop-up window, make all required changes. For more information about the VM profile, VM Profile Details and Settings.
- Click Save.
