The netcat utility is bundled with up.time to execute agent commands across a network connection.  On some Operating Systems netcat may be blocked by a local antivirus program (most commonly Norton Antivirus).  This occurs because netcat can sometimes be used as a network hacking tool.

up.time's netcat usage is not related to any type of security bypass or other harmful purpose.  However, the netcat binary is not required by up.time so this issue can be resolved by choosing one of the following options:

  1. Exclude netcat from the installation (or delete netcat from the directory in which up.time is installed).
  2. Create a rule in your antivirus software to allow netcat to run on the monitoring station system.
  3. Use the agentcmd utility instead of netcat.
