Uptime Infrastructure Monitor can collect workload information f= rom IBM pSeries servers that have logical partitions (LPARs). For data coll= ection to occur, you need to install an Uptime Infrastructure Monitor Agent= on the Virtual I/O partition (VIO) and each LPAR whose workload you want t= o profile.
There are two scenarios for installing agents on IBM pSeries servers wit= h LPARs:
In both cases, you will need to install the agent on each LPAR; installi= ng the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor Agent on the VIO partition depends on = whether you use an HMC.
oem_setup_env
tar -xvf <agentname>
<agentname>
is the name of the archive that conta=
ins the agent that you are installing (e.g., uptmagnt-AIX-5.1.tar).
Run the following command to install the agent:./I=
NSTALL.sh
Do not install the agent as a Virtual I/O Server by using the -vio=
attribute with the install
command. Doing so may lead =
to conflicts with HMC-managed systems, and can result in incorrect performa=
nce statistics.
Install Uptime Infrastructure Monitor Agents on each partition whose=
workload you want to monitor.
Refer to Installing the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor Agent on an LPAR Running Lin=
ux or Installing the Uptime Infrastructure Monitor Agent on an LPAR Running =
AIX below, depending on which operating system is running on the partit=
ion.
tar -xvf <agentName>
<agentName>
is the name of the archive that conta=
ins the agent that you are installing (e.g., uptmagnt-AIX-5.1.tar).
Run the following command to install the agent:./I=
NSTALL.sh -vio
If Linux is running on the LPAR, do the following to install the Uptime = Infrastructure Monitor Agent:
root
..rpm
file containing the Uptime Infrastructure Mo=
nitor Agent to the LPAR.rpm -i <agentName>.rp=
m
<agentName>
is the name of the .rpm
=
file for the agent that you are installing (e.g., uptimeagent-6.=
0.0-linux-x86_64.rpm
).If AIX is running on the LPAR, do the following to install the Uptime In= frastructure Monitor Agent:
root
.tar -xvf <agentName>
<agentName>
is the name of the archive that conta=
ins the agent that you are installing (e.g., uptmagnt-AIX-5.1.tar).
Run the following command to install the Uptime Infrastructure Monit=
or Agent:./INSTALL.sh
if the LPAR is mang=
ed by HMC
If you are using an HMC, do not install the Agent as a Virtual I/O Serve=
r by using the -vio
attribute with the install
co=
mmand. Doing so may lead to conflicts with HMC-managed systems, and can res=
ult in incorrect performance statistics.
